Divisional Level Workshop on Sustainable Land Management - Environment

With support from UNDP, in partnership with MOEF, the `Sustainable Land Management Project (SLMP)` has been contributing to build an active knowledge base as well as shaping national policies and awareness raising for combating land degradation through enhancing institutional and human capacity. With this objective a divisional level workshop on "Sustainable Land Management - Environment" was organized by the SLM project on 07 March 2012 in the Circuit House, Chittagong. Objectives of the Workshop were: 1. to sensitize the key stakeholders from Upazila level to Divisional levels on sustainable land management issues and practices; 2. to collect their views and recommendations to implement sustainable land management.

The workshop was chaired by Dr. Md. Nasiruddin, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forests and National Project Director, Capacity Building and Resource Mobilization for Sustainable Land Management (Ecosystem Management) in Bangladesh Project. Chief Guest of the workshop was Mr. Md. Serajul Huq Khan, Divisional Commissioner, Chittagong Division. Mr. Faiz Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner, Chittagong District and Mr. Tarik-ul-Islam, Assistant Country Director, UNDP Bangladesh were present in the workshop as special guests. Three presentations were made in the workshop on the issues followed by an open discussion session to collect participant`s views and comments.

65 people participated in the workshop from Upazila level to divisional levels, they included officials from Administration and Land, Department of Fisheries (DoF), Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Department of Livestock (DL), Department of Environment (DoE), Forest Department (FD), representatives from different universities, Chittagong City Corporation, local NGO, journalists and civil society.
