UNDP mobilizes emergency response relief to the cyclone affected people



UNDP Bangladesh, through its partner organizations, has commenced distributing emergency response relief items (5kg of flattened rice & 1kg of molasses) to 70,000 affected families in the 12 worst affected districts (Patuakhali, Bagerhat, Barguna, Perojpur, Barishal, Jhalokathi, Satkhira, Khulna, Bhola, Noakhali, Chandpur, Madaripur).

UNDP has provided 1,000 portable water filters to the Government of Bangladesh for distribution.

UNDP Bangladesh, through its partner organizations, has distributed 240,000 packets of water purification powder in 22 affected districts and commenced distributing 18,000 sheets of tripol (temporary shelter) to the worst affected districts.

UNDP is operationlising US $4.1 million of UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) assistance. This will provide 100,000 vulnerable families with emergency shelter and a further 100,000 families with essential non-food items (such as cooking utensils, cloths, mosquito nets etc).

UNDP is operationlising £2.5 million of DFID assistance to meet immediate relief needs for the people and areas affected by Cyclone Sidr.

Two international disaster experts from the Bureau of Crisis Coordination are supporting the UNDP Bangladesh Country Office.
