(9 Aug 2012) The UN International Day of the World Indigenous Peoples was celebrated around the country as well as in Dhaka. The theme of this year`s celebration was "Indigenous Media, Empowering Indigenous Voices". In Bangladesh and the rest of the world, indigenous peoples are using mass media to showcase their stories; to challenge misconceptions about their history and culture; to combat human rights violations; to advocate for their rights; and access resources that will enable them to sustain their unique ways of life.
