2008 Activities

Sticker Campaign:
A sticker campaign will be carried out using Auto-Rikshas. The target is to paste stickers on at least 2,000 Auto-Rikshas. The sticker campaign will be launched on the 5th of December to mark the International Volunteer Day- IVD. The sticker will contain information about MDG and will direct people who are interested in MDGs related programs and projects to our website for details and information on how to apply for volunteer positions. The sticker will have Bangla translation so as to create curiosity among members of the society to start asking questions relating to MDGs

Collaboration and Networking:
To ensure continuous mobilization of skilled volunteers and regular visits to our website, UNV is collaborating with a local job website management company- Streetjobs.com. JobStreet.com has at least 70,000 job seekers visiting their website. Through Banner hosting, Email blasts and regular volunteer vacancy position advertisement, interested volunteers will regularly be redirected to our website for details of information on particular positions.

UNV will also be collaborating with the CNG Auto-Riksha Association to assist in pasting the stickers and ensuring that they are pasted on strategic spots of the Auto-Rikshas.

Partnership building:
UNV is deepening partnership with other UN agencies to support their programs and projects through the recruitment of volunteers to assist in sustainable project delivery at the local level. There is a partnership between CHTDF and UNV in the area of community empowerment through the capacity enhancement of women in CHT.

The enCAP/GEP project is geared towards the promotion of gender equity which is MDG goal #3 goal through the enhancement of capacity and confidence building of women in CHT. This project is crucial in the achievement, localizing and sustainability of MDGs in CHT because it has been established that there is a serious dearth of qualified development professionals, especially professional women staff in the region. This has been considered to be one of the biggest obstacles to improve gender balance at organization level.

The project will mobilize women in CHT and provide training on Basic Community Development Skills. After the training, the women graduates are placed to gain practical on-the-job experiences with key partner organizations such as UNDP for one year. The project will contribute to training and skills development of promising young women of the CHT to gain a first hand, high quality development experience. This experience will enhance their employability and confidence as well as build their capacity to take on leadership roles in local NGOs/CBOs for the empowerment of the community. The project will contribute to the capacity enhancement of local human resources by providing opportunities for learning and experience sharing for suitable and promising young women in CHT.

These graduates can also be used as representatives of the local CHT communities to provide a basis and mechanism for regular communication and opinion sharing between the UNDP and local communities and institutions.

With UNDP commitment to broad-based community participation and local human resource development, volunteerism will strategically create the appropriate mechanism through which local participation is greatly promoted, facilitated and harnessed. This match provides a strong base for partnership between UNV and UNDP.

Similarly, to support volunteers in the field and to ensure that they have access to information, a Volunteer Support Telephone service Line is being established.
